Alistair Overeem vs Stefan Struve is official for December…

UFC heavyweights Alistair Overeem and Stefan Struve have been booked in to face each other at UFC on FOX 13 in December, the UFC announced earlier today. “The Skyscraper” was originally set to return from a heart condition to face Matt Mitrione at UFC 175, but he was pulled at the last minute after a feinting episode.

“The Reem” got knocked out by “Big” Ben Rothwell in his last outing, the heavy handed slugger put Overeem’s lights out in the first round of their UFC Fight Night 50 pairing. The bout between Overeem and Struve is interesting for quite a few reasons; firstly it pits two Dutch kickboxers against each other, but also this could be a rather difficult fight for Struve to return to.

It will be 21 months since Struve last fought once he faces Overeem in December, and to face a heavy handed former K-1 and Strikeforce champion is no minor task. The matchmaking, as far as their styles, is pretty solid though. The bout will be joined by former WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner, as he is scheduled to take on Drew Dober, and also a middleweight scrap between Ed Herman and Derek Brunson.

So, who will win this battle of giant Dutch strikers? Overeem has his back against the wall after losing three from his last four, whereas Struve will be looking to make a big splash upon his much-anticipated return…..
