Alistair Overeem and Andrei Arlovski are scheduled to fight in a heavyweight clash at UFC Fight Night 87. Overeem recently spoke with MMA Latest about the upcoming fight. There’s been rumors that Overeem asked for this fight against his teammate but according to Overeem that’s not the case and that the UFC offered him the fight.

“The UFC offered me this fight. Actually, Lorenzo [Fertitta] said ‘Cain or Arlovski. Cain is injured, so most likely it will be Arlovski.”

“I don’t have any concerns fighting a teammate,” Overeem continued. “It’s a sport. To me, it doesn’t really mean anything.”

Overeem then made a bold claim, and that was that he would fight for the heavyweight title by the end of this year.

“We’re going to pick right back up where we left off after this fight. After I beat Arlovski, I’ll be fighting for the title — end of the year.”

Overeem (40-14-1) is currently on a three-fight winning streak. In his last six bouts, he’s 4-2. He lost to Travis Browne at UFC Fight Night 26 by first round KO, beat Frank Mir at UFC 169 by unanimous decision, but then lost to Ben Rothwell at UFC Fight Night 50 by first round TKO. He rebounded with two straight wins over Stefan Struve at UFC on FOX 13 by first round KO and Roy Nelson at UFC 185 by unanimous decision. He beat Junior Dos Santos at UFC on FOX 17 by second round TKO.
