Ex-TUF Finalist Penalized With 12-Month Suspension After Failed Drug Test, Sole UFC Win Overturned

Ex-TUF Finalist Penalized With One-Year Suspension After Failed Drug Test, Sole UFC Win Overturned

A UFC flyweight’s return to the Octagon has been ruled out until 2027.

On Tuesday, the MMA promotion’s anti-doping partner, Combat Sports Anti-Doping, announced that Alibi Idiris has been issued a one-year suspension after violating drug-testing regulations.

Idiris returned a positive test for hydrochlorothiazide, a prohibited diuretic and masking agent known to obscure the presence of other banned substances by accelerating fluid loss. The 31-year-old Kazakh’s ban originates from an in-competition sample taken on February 21, 2026, when he earned a unanimous decision win over Ode Osbourne at UFC Houston.

In a statement, the UFC noted that Idiris was forthcoming with investigators and acknowledged using the substance during his weight cut. Despite his admission, CSAD opted not to lessen the penalty. With the suspension applied retroactively, he is ineligible to compete until February 21, 2027.

“CSAD is not suspending or reducing any period of his ineligibility due to the seriousness of knowingly using a diuretic during fight week and the advantage that he received in making his contracted weight.”

Alongside the suspension, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) has nullified his win over Osbourne. Since the substance is also prohibited under state regulations, the result has been officially overturned to a no-contest.

How Did Alibi Idiris Earn His UFC Contract?

Alibi Idiris featured on Season 33 of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) as part of Team Cormier, where he opened his campaign with a unanimous decision victory over Furkatbek Yokubov in February 2025. He followed that up with an impressive knockout win against Roybert Echeverria in the semifinals the following month.

Idiris went on to face Joseph Morales in the TUF 33 finale at UFC 319 last August but was submitted via triangle choke in the second round. Despite the setback, he impressed enough to earn a UFC contract and went on to fight Ode’ Osbourne.
