“Poatan” Alex Pereira Still Eyeing a Jon Jones Fight in the Future
Alex Pereira believes he and Jon Jones will lock horns in the octagon sooner or later. For now, the Brazilian will be making his heavyweight debut on the UFC Freedom 250 card and will face Ciryl Gane for the interim 265-pound championship.
Meanwhile, Jones, who wanted to fight at the White House, had shown interest in fighting “Poatan.” However, Dana White claimed that Jones’ name was never in the mix to fight on June 14. “Bones” later alleged that he was lowballed by the UFC brass, which caused negotiations to fall through, and as a result, a potential super fight with Pereira failed to materialize.

Unhappy with White’s comments, Jones has asked the UFC to release him if they feel he has nothing more to offer to the promotion.
However, Pereira believes the UFC would not release Jones right away, and down the line, he expects to fight the American. On The Ariel Helwani Show, the 38-year-old said:
“I believe it happens because he has to be released from the UFC, and I don’t think the UFC is going to release him anytime soon. If he wants to fight, who’s going to be against him? It’s going to be against me.”

Alex Pereira has signed a new deal with the UFC
During the same sitdown with Ariel Helwani, Alex Pereira revealed that he’s signed a new eight-fight deal with the UFC and has zero regrets that he had to vacate his light heavyweight strap to move up. He said:
“Honestly, I just wanted to let go of my belt and fight heavyweights, maybe even fight for a belt. But even if it was a regular fight, I just expressed that I wanted to do a heavyweight fight, and they really took good care of me. The way they gave me this last contract was so good that I left it open for them to do whatever they wanted; it didn’t matter.”

Pereira also added that he plans to finish his career at heavyweight and has zero plans to drop down to the 205-pound division.
