Abraham Bably on How Mike Tyson Informed Cut to 205 Pounds for PFL San Diego

Abraham Bably

Abraham Bably is the former PFL Africa heavyweight champion, but it was former WBC heavyweight champion Mike Tyson who inspired the former to navigate a weight cut to light heavyweight. Bably will be taking on former PFL light heavyweight champion Rob Wilkinson to kick off the main card of PFL San Diego, set for Saturday, June 27th. When delving into the broader amendment components that come with getting down to 205 pounds for this Wilkinson fight here in California, Abraham Bably said [via Bowks Talking Bouts],

“Just eating less I [laughter] would say. Listen, the truth is about this, mate. I couldn’t even explain to you how ready I am to go for this fight. I didn’t need to win any tournament to know who I am. I know who I am anyway. A lot of these guys need people to give them the reassurance that they are good or that they are ready to perform. I don’t need anyone to watch me.”

“I train behind the lights and in the darkness where a lot of these guys need their coaches to fuel them with energy and positivity. I don’t need any of that. So to answer your question, mate, I’m just more aggressive because I’m hungrier. [laughter].”

Referencing an interview with Bably a few years ago ahead of his PFL Challenger Series efforts, where he said he would become one of the best heavyweights to ever live and how unassailably solid his confidence has always seemed to be, Bably stated [via Bowks Talking Bouts],

“Of course. If I don’t believe in myself, who will? Who will? You wouldn’t have wanted to interview me if I was a boring c**t would you [laughter]? So, I’m just really focused for this one. I don’t feel like I need to waffle as we say over here. When it’s showtime, I will show what time it is. So, I’m ready to go. There’s not much I need to say on that one.”

Abraham Bably touches on Mike tyson’s influence, PFL San Diego weight has been revealed

When asked about when a light heavyweight move popped up on his radar and how the legendary ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson informed the thought process, Abraham Bably quipped [via Bowks Talking Bouts],

“So, when I lost the split decision to [Rodrigo] Nascimento, I didn’t sleep all night. I was getting chewed up by mosquitoes the whole entire night, mate. Yeah, and I went on my phone and I typed in what was Mike Tyson’s prime weight? It said 215 to 225. I thought get down to 205, rehydrate to about 215. That sounds a bit like me. Now, if these heavyweights thought I was rapid as a heavyweight, what do you reckon these light heavyweights are going to think when I drop down? So, [laughter] all right, mate. I can’t weight. I can’t wait.”

Abraham Bably made weight and actually hit the scales at a marginally lower amount than his former light heavyweight tournament champion opponent tomorrow night. Rob Wilkinson clocked in at 205.8 pounds while Bably registered 205.6 pounds on the scale.
