UFC Fight Night 62 Preliminary Card Results: Trinaldo Smothers Arreola

Tonight’s (Sat., March 21, 2015) UFC Fight Night 62 preliminary card kicked off the event from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with a bang thanks to several electrifying finishes from top to bottom.

In the featured preliminary bout, Brazilian vet Francisco “Massaranduba” Trinaldo locked horns with Akbarh Arreola at lightweight. Trinaldo dominated the fight with his wrestling, grinding Arreola with smothering ground damage. He controlled the last round with powerful Muay Thai and a late takedown to win a unanimous decision.

Kevin Souza faced off against Katsunori Kikuno in a featherweight contest. It wasn’t destined to last long, as Souza spent a moment finding his range before nailing Kikuno with a massive straight right that had his opponent wrestling the referee.

Adding to the list of lightweight bouts on the card, Drew Dober met Leandro Silva, who landed some good shots early only to see Dober fight back with some solid combos. But the fight ended with extreme controversy when the referee called off the fight when Silva barely had a guillotine choke locked on. Dober never tapped, creating a phantom-like submission finish.

Leonardo Mafra squared off against Cain Carrizosa at lightweight. The fight was a slugfest, with Carrizosa dropping Mafra early. The Brazilian found his range soon, nailing a fading Carrizosa with repeated punches, kicks, and takedowns. He mounted Carrizosa in the final round to lock up a solid unanimous decision victory.

The Fight Pass card was capped off by another lightweight scrap between Christos Giagos and Jorge de Oliveira. Giagos used a slick takedown to mount de Oliveira and soften him up with ground punches before taking his back and locking on a tight rear-naked choke to earn the first round submission win.

Kicking off the Fight Pass prelims, Fredy Serrano battled Bentley Syler at flyweight. Serrano put forth a wholly dominant showing, picking Syler apart over the first two rounds before finishing him off with a highlight reel uppercut to earn a huge debut knockout.
