The oft-discussed lightweight co-main event for January 18’s UFC Fight Night 59 from the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, has finally been made official.

Today (Wed., October 29, 2014) FOX Sports reported that Donald Cerrone will face undefeated contender Myles Jury in a crucial 155-pound scrap.

The No. 4-ranked Cerrone has been on an absolute tear as of late, winning five straight bouts over tough competition since losing to No. 3 contender Rafael dos Anjos at UFC Fight Night 27 in August 2013.

“Cowboy” was last seen defeating former Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez with a battering decision at UF 178 in September, inching him ever closer to a title shot that he doesn’t necessarily seem to care about.

He’ll have to get past the surging Jury first, who most recently became the first man to knock out former Pride champion Takanori Gomi with a lethal series of punches at September 20’s UFC Fight Night 52 from Japan. Before that he sent veteran Diego Sanchez packing with a thoroughly one-sided decision at UFC 172 in April.

Cerrone posted a teaser poster for the FOX Sports 1 event, which features a featherweight headliner between current superstar Conor McGregor and Dennis Siver, on his Instagram account:

And we are off to the races

Cerrone vs. Jury has been moved to the UFC 182 co-main event on January 3 after the previously scheduled co-main event between Ronda Rousey and Cat Zingano was moved to UFC 184’s co-headliner spot.
