Chael Sonnen explains his defense of Alistair Overeem, his respect for the fans, and UFC 148 outlook

In his lengthy interview courtesy of bleacherreport.com, Chael Sonnen sounds off on several subjects, including the media advancement that has taken place in MMA and the issue of sportsmanship and respect within the sport, be it fighter or media-based. He explains his highly controversial defense of Alistair Overeem, saying that something does not become true just because the media believes it to be. He sticks by the stance that Overeem did not fail the test for anything specific. Sonnen believes that TRT is viable and he was approved to use it.

Inevitably the conversation shifts to his battle with archrival Anderson Silva. He has a few words for those who are betting on Anderson Silva, and some more thoughts on Brazil. Sonnen acknowledges that he does throw political correctness out the window. He does show some great respect for the fans and does not look down upon them for booing, saying that they can do whatever they want to, within legal limits if course. After some jabs at Silva and Ed Soares, Chael announces that he is the “new Sheriff in town.” Overall, a great interview that showcases a very laid-back, reserved version of Chael P. Sonnen compared to his usual hype.
