Jon Jones ‘Offended’ The UFC Showed Death Threat Video

UFC 182 is coming closer, and the promotion is really stepping up the hype for the main event of Jon Jones vs Daniel Cormier. There is good reason behind it, as the two have an ongoing feud which easily rivals any past beef in the UFC. The hatred is clear between the two gargantuan light-heavyweights, and it has spilled over in public many times.

The notorious UFC 178 media day brawl showed the physical tension between the two, but somewhat more shocking were the death threats by “Bones” during a ‘hot mic’ out-take. Initially, the death threat video became yet another viral sensation of the rivalry between DC and Jones, but the UFC light-heavyweight champion says he didn’t take kindly to the video being made public by the UFC.

Check out what “Bones” said during last night’s edition of “UFC Tonight”, as transcribed by MMAMania:

“When I first saw it I was a little offended by it. That UFC — someone who is supposed to be backing my brand and making me look good — would put up something like that for the general public to see. I don’t think it’s really healthy for the world to see their champion — for the world to see UFC’s champion — saying I would kill someone. That really took me off guard. I didn’t really think it was in my best interest, but it was for UFC’s best interest, so I kind of had to swallow my pride. I said it.”

Damn, and here we all were thinking that the death threats may have been a cunning plot by the promotion to help fuel the fire in the media. Well, in a way it was, but apparently Jones and Cormier weren’t in on it. The media day brawl itself garnered a lot of attention from both sides of the fence, but the ‘hot mics’ showed a much more personal attack.

Was the UFC right in making the video public in the way they did? You could argue that anything that helps improve sales for the promotion will do, but what if it had tarred Jones’ image and helped with him getting dropped by Nike? Good job Reebok didn’t see the video, ey?
