The Sonnen family is in for quite an emotional battle, and it’s nowhere near the UFC’s Octagon.

Former UFC middleweight and light heavyweight title challenger Chael Sonnen announced to MMA Fighting yesterday that his newborn baby girl has contracted listeria after being born 10 weeks premature last week.

Sonnen’s daughter, named Blauna Dian Sonnen, was born Friday, Aug. 12, in Portland, Oregon.

Doctors state that Sonnen’s wife, Brittany, contracted the illness, which led to the early birth and the passing of the illness to the child as well.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) defines listeria as “a serious infection usually caused by eating food contaminated with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes.”

‘The Bad Guy’ has partnered with the law firm Flesher Schaff & Schroeder Inc. to investigate into the matter of how his wife contracted the disease, and contact has already been made with the CDC and FDA by Flesher Schaff & Schroeder on behalf of Sonnen.

“She’s in a battle and we are prepared to fight,” Sonnen said.

We here at LowKick would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to the Sonnen family during this difficult time, and wish nothing but the best for young Blauna during her ongoing battle.
