If Waldo Cortes-Acosta Defeats Derrick Lewis He Will Get a Title Shot – Former UFC Champ Reveals

Former UFC champion Michael Bisping believes Waldo Cortes-Acosta deserves a world title shot if he is able to get through Derrick Lewis at UFC 324.

In just two months, Waldo Cortes-Acosta will lock horns with Derrick Lewis as he attempts to continue his meteoric rise up through the heavyweight division in the UFC. He is coming off the back of a knockout win (on short notice) over Shamil Gaziev, which took his record for 2025 to an incredible 4-1. As you can tell by the news we’ve just discussed, he certainly isn’t messing around.

Waldo Cortes-Acosta made it clear that he wants to go after the gold and while the title picture is a bit fuzzy at the moment while we wait for more news regarding Tom Aspinall’s condition, all Waldo can do is focus on his own game and stay active – which is precisely what he’s doing.

In a recent video, the aforementioned Michael Bisping gave his own thoughts on Waldo Cortes-Acosta’s future.

Michael Bisping’s view on Waldo Cortes-Acosta vs Derrick Lewis

“Waldo Cortes-Acosta going up against Derrick Lewis. It is an absolute banger of a fight. Someone’s going to get knocked out. And I tell you what, if Cortes-Acosta can get through Derrick Lewis, and that’s a big ask. Remember, Derrick has the most knockouts in all of UFC history. Not just heavyweight, the whole of the UFC. And he finds a way of landing that shot. And then you get to see the celebration and all the rest of it.

“But Cortes-Acosta, poked in the eye or not, eye patch or not, it doesn’t matter. He’s going to go out there. He’s going to throw that right hand at over 100 miles an hour like he used to throw a baseball and look for the knockout himself. And if he can get through Derek Lewis, he will be next for a title fight.”
