UFC 235 Preliminary Card Results: Zabit Decisions Jeremy Stephens

UFC 235 preliminary card results are underway as the Las Vegas-based promotion holds this latest event on television for fight fans around the world to watch the show.

It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Saturday, March 2, 2019) will come from in the form of UFC 235. Headlining the card are Jon Jones and Anthony Smith, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the preliminary section of the card.

Zabit Magomedsharipov vs. Jeremy Stephens in a lightweight closes the preliminary card on ESPN in what should be an interesting fight. In round 1, a hard body kick from Zabit. Tough round to score. He had some good counter hooks and a couple cutting leg kicks. But Stephens had more kicks and a couple rights.In round 2, Stephens pushing forward with right hands and lands an overhand as Zabit goes for the counter. Zabit with a hook kick to the head. Zabit with a good body shot, ducks in on a single leg, chains to a double leg body lock and gets Stephens down. Stephens up quick but Zabit drags him down again. Zabit on Stephens back now with hooks in. Stephens trying to defend the rear-naked choke. In round 3, Stephens taking over this round a bit. Did will to land offense off the shot and is working the body well. Zabit with a hard knee, but he hasn’t slowed Stephens pressure. Zabit going to the body and Stephens answers with a right hand. Zabit landing left and trading in the pocket. Goes for a shot but can’t get it. Stephens dives on him. Zabit got the decision win.

Misha Cirkunov vs. Johnny Walker is next in a light heavyweight bout.
Walker came out to hit a flying knee strike to the face then wrapped it up with strikes on the ground. 

Alejandro Perez vs. Cody Stamann is next in a bantamweight bout. In round 1, Stamann dives into the pocket and both men land hooks. Nice counter knee from Perez, and he pumps a jab as Stamann backs off. Perez stalking forward, Stamann with front kicks off his back foot, Perez with a low kick. Both Perez and Stamann short-arming a lot of punches at range, Stamann backs up and Perez hits him with a 1-2. Stamann clinches and both men end up brawling to separate. In round 2, Stamann with a right hand as Perez tried another spinning backfist. Perez with a couple low kicks, but he’s let this round slide away from him. Stamann shoots a double, but Perez backs to the cage and he’s doing well to fight it off and land small punches. Stamann finds the single, but Perez scrambles out.In round 3, Perez shoots another single leg and lands a left hook off it. Stamann throwing a good 1-2 to the body and Perez answers with a kick. Stamann picking long body shots now and a couple stepping front kicks. Perez lunges in with a left right and catches Stamann hard as he circles away. Stamann got the win.

Mickey Gall vs. Diego Sanchez in a welterweight bout opens the ESPN preliminary bouts. In round 1, Sanchez goes for a takedown. Gall tried to sweep him and just let himself get flattened out instead. Sanchez on top in Gall’s guard. Gall scrambles to his feet, but Sanchez keeps the body lock and hauls him back to the mat. Gall up again and down again and up again. He finally turns and breaks Diego’s grip, but gives up a double as he does it. Gall back on the ground with Diego dropping elbows on him from guard. In round 2, Gall swings a couple hard hooks, but puts his arms down and takes a deep breath. Hard counter hook from Gall, but he is stumbling through his punches. Sanchez lands a clinch knee and Gall drops to the mat. The MMA Veteran got mount and landed enough strikes to earn the TKO win.

Charles Byrd vs. Edmen Shahbazyan in a bantamweight bout finishes off the UFC Fight Pass preliminary card. In round 1, Byrd shoots and Shahbazyan elbows him into the mat for a TKO

Macy Chiasson vs. Gina Mazany is next in a women’s bantamweight bout. In round 1, Mazany battles her way off the cage and Chiasson chases her down with a long combo and drops her hard with punches. She followed up hammerfists and Mazany is out.

Opening the UFC Fight Pass prelims is Hannah Cifers vs. Polyana Viana in a women’s strawweight bout. In round 1, Nice couple body shots from Cifers, Viana with the counter. Cifers with another right to the body. Viana answers with a leg kick. Cifers catches a kick and Viana pulls guard. Viana trying for the toe hold, but Cifers spins out of it and returns to standing and waves her up. In round 2, Viana with another body kick, Cifers whifs on the counter and Viana lands a left hook as Cifers is jumping in and drops her. Viana pulls guard immediately. Viana throwing hammerfists off her back, trying to set up an armbar. In round 3, Cifers and Viana trading body kicks. Viana throws a punch kick combo, but she’s really short arming her punches in favor of keeping range.Both women trade right hands. Cifers with another body shot, and a couple right hands over the top. Viana pushes forward with kicks to drive Cifers out of the pocket. The judges gave the win to Cifers by split decision.
