It seems as if mixed martial arts (MMA) has received some mainstream attention recently in the sports world. With the widely popular ESPY awards approaching, two of the UFC’s biggest stars have been nominated for awards.

First off, reigning women’s bantamweight queen, and multi-media superstar “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey has been nominated for not only one, but two awards. MMAMania has confirmed that for the second straight year the “Rowdy” one has been nominated for “Best Fighter”, as well as “Best Female Athlete”.

Rousey is undoubtedly one of the most dominant fighters in the sport, and a ruthless finisher. She is riding three-straight first-round finishes over Sara McMann, Alexis Davis, and Cat Zingano, with all three fights totaling a time of one minute and 36 seconds. Also starring in featured films “Furious 7” and “Entourage” recently, Rousey has clearly become a prominent figure in the sport.

Can she add some ESPY awards to her name as she approaches her next title defense against Bethe Correia at UFC 190 in August?

The second UFC star to be nominated for an award is none other than soon to be lightweight title challenger Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. One of the most active fighters in the UFC and a fan favorite, Cerrone, like Rousey, has been nominated for “Best Fighter”. The nomination is clearly well-deserved as the surging Cerrone has won a whopping eight-straight fights, some in devastating fashion.

Like his nominated counterpart, can Cerrone snag up an ESPY as he approaches his next fight, which presumably will be a shot at UFC gold?
