Remember When: Cain Velasquez Destroyed Brock Lesnar

Although it seems like it’s been ages since the UFC heavyweight title has been defended, champion Cain Velasquez will finally defend his belt against interim champion Fabricio Werdum in the main event of June 13’s UFC 188 from Mexico City.

Velasquez has only fought Junior dos Santos and Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva twice each since late 2011, and he’s been on the shelf since his last win over ‘Cigano;’ a brutal fifth round TKO stoppage at UFC 166. He was supposed to headline last November’s Mexican debut of UFC 180 but a knee injury in training delayed the fight until roughly three weeks from now.

Still ranked as the no. 4 pound-for-pound fighter in the world despite a full 19 months out of the Octagon, it seems like Velasquez has been lost in the shuffle due to his injuries.

However, there’s no denying that he’s one of the most dominant fighters in all of MMA when he’s healthy, a fact that was first established when the brutalizing NCAA All-American wrestler first won the belt with his legendary first round finish of popular former champ Brock Lesnar at UFC 121 way back in October 2010.
