Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen will coach TUF; Title fight set for April of next year

Apparently, even if Dana White could have gotten Anderson Silva to say ‘yes’ to a superfight with Jon Jones, that fight would have had to wait for quite some time anyhow. Breaking news comes that Jones will act as coach on the next season of The Ultimate Fighter, and will be pitted against former Middleweight title challenger and trash-talk specialist Chael Sonnen. The two were almost on their way to a UFC 151-saving bout on September 1st before the now-infamous incident of Jones turning down the fight.

Vitor Belfort has three words for Jon Jones: I am ready

Vitor Belfort will challenge Jon Jones for the Light Heavyweight championship in the UFC 152 main event on September 22 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. Beltor was supposed to face Alan Belcher at Middleweight at UFC 153 in Brazil, this October, but when a fighter has a chance of reclaiming a former title he has to take it.This chance came up due to the cancellation of UFC 151 in Las Vegas when Dan Henderson withdrew due to injury and reigning champion Jon Jones declined a replacement in the form of

Tito Ortiz: Forrest Griffin fought pitter patter, I was trying to kill him

Tito Ortiz voiced his opinions post-fight at UFC 148 in what would be his final fight pres conference. He had several good quotes concerning his career ending bout with Forrest Griffin, a fight that he lost by unanimous decision. Ortiz was not surprisingly upset with the outcome, thinking that he did more damage and was looking to finish the fight, but still gave respect to Griffin. Sonnen: I am the most dominant fighter in the history of this sport

MMA H.E.A.T.’s Karyn Bryant interviewed an unusually reserved Chael Sonnen at the UFC 148 open workouts in Las Vegas. In what has been billed as the fight (or at least the rematch) of the year against Anderson Silva, Sonnen, surprisingly claims that he still has to lose 20 pounds before tomorrow’s weigh-ins: “I am 20lbs over and have 24 hours to go, I’m going to go through a lot of discomfort, but I’ll make the weight.”
When asked about Anderson Silva’s comments about Sonnen recently, in response

Randy Couture: Silva vs. Sonnen II features a reverse in strategy

Former UFC multi-class champion Randy “The Natural” Couture weighs in on next weekend’s blockbuster Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen rematch. He goes into detail by noting that the strategy in the fight will only be a reverse from their first outing, stating the following:
“It’s kind of odd. Normally I would say that the onus is on the guy who won the first fight to anticipate the changes the loser is going to make and get the same outcome. If you look at Anderson and Chael, Anderson won by triangle choke

It is midway through 2012, and it seems to be a bad year for injuries in the UFC. Five important fights have been cancelled or postponed this year due to injury, surgery, illness or suspension. These things are all part of the fight game and have been since day one. The nature of the sport is brutal, but injuries are not isolated to fights. Most fighters suffer their injuries in training.  As well-rounded as a UFC fighter is expected to be, it is quite easy to “overtrain”, that is, put the body
