Michael Venom Page Is Bringing the Show: I Am the Main Event Always at UFC London
Michael Venom Page is returning to the welterweight division following his successful stint at middleweight and will face former training partner and fellow Brit Sam Patterson on home turf this weekend at UFC London.
The Page vs. Patterson bout is a part of the main card and will go down just before the co-main event, which features a featherweight clash between Luke Riley and Michael Aswell.
Meanwhile, the UFC London headliner features a high-stakes showdown between undefeated top contenders Movsar Evloev and Lerone Murphy.
Michael Venom Page on not getting the chance to co-headline UFC London
Michael Venom Page had previously expressed frustration at the UFC for pairing him with an unranked opponent.
On media day, when “Venom” was asked if he was disappointed about not co-heading UFC London, he said:
Again, it was part of the frustrations initially, but I used to say the same thing when I was at Bellator: no matter where you put me on the card, I am the main event.
When asked if a big win this weekend will help him secure a fight against a ranked, credible opponent next, Page, who has been a victim of the UFC’s recent wave of matchmaking, said he’s not too sure:
“To be fair, I’m not sure. You never know. Things just change like the tides at sea. But I’m always striving for a big KO. I’m always striving to entertain. I’m always striving to put highlight videos out to showcase how talented I am.”
Michael Venom Page added that he’s always game to produce big moments in the octagon, and he doesn’t need to chase highlight reel finishes, but they always come because of his style.
About his future in the UFC, “Venom” said that he’s even capable of moving up to light heavyweight, but for now, his crosshairs are on the welterweight title. However, if the top 170-pounders don’t show interest in locking horns with him, he might have to go back to middleweight.
“I seem to be capable of just going anywhere. So as long as people can get me some good fights, I kind of want to go there. It seems to be a struggle at welterweight, but my goal is the welterweight title. If the guys here continue to not want to fight me, then I might have to go up back up again and look at the middleweight belt.”
