Kevin Lee Gets Eye Poked, Then Submits James Moontasri

Fresh off a unanimous decision win back in February, Kevin Lee (11-1) was looking to extend his winning streak to four at UFC Fight Night 71 in San Diego. To do that, he needed to overcome former Resurrection Fighting Alliance (RFA) standout James Moontasri (8-3).

At the end of the fight, it was “The Motown Phenom” who was standing tall.

The first lightweight tilt on the main card began with Moontasri landing an inside leg kick. He then connected with another one and blocked a high kick. Lee landed a body kick to back his opponent off. Lee connected with a straight right to the chin. The action was halted when Lee was poked in the eye. Moontasri sold getting poked in the eye himself, but replays told a different story.

When the action resumed, Lee lifted “Moonwalker” and brought him to the ground. He locked in a body triangle as Moontasri attempted to shake him off. Lee synched a rear-naked choke and Moontasri tapped.

Final Result: Kevin Lee def. James Moontasri via submission (Rear-naked choke) – Round 1, 2:56
