Jon Jones Was Speaking With Kids Well Before His Legal Issues

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is looking to put his legal troubles behind him by talking and working with kids that may be in danger of going down to the criminal path that he once did.

According to Denise White, CEO of EAG Sports Management, Jones was working with kids before his legal troubles happened.

“He’s been speaking at schools and kids organizations for quite some time,” White told MMAjunkie. “His message is a little different now.”

“His message to kids now is one that is very poignant,” White said. “He just has a great message to tell these kids about coming back from adversity and righting your wrongs and not making the same mistakes twice.”

As reported earlier on the site, Jones was alleged to be involved in a hit and run car accident back in April of this year. A crime that resulted in the UFC stripping him of the light heavyweight title and suspending him indefinitely. In September Jones plead guilty to one felony count of leaving the scene of a crash, which resulted in Jones being convicted of a 4th-degree felony. He will have supervised probation for up to 18 months. The judge ordered Jones to make 72 appearances as part of his probation.

“Way before this all happened, but a lot during his time off, people wondered what he was doing,” she said. “What he was doing was a) training, and b) going and hanging out with the kids at the Boys and Girls Club, which I thought was really good for him. Obviously, he has something to tell them.”

When asked about Jones returning to MMA and the promotion that he once ruled, this is what she said.

“Really with Jon right now, it’s getting him where he needs to be and doing the things he needs to do for the court so he can come back and be a productive citizen (like) before all this happened.”

There’s still no word on when Jones may return to the UFC, but it’s expected to be once his legal issues are cleared up.
