John Hathaway gets a Unanimous Decision over Diego Sanchez

John Hathaway was able to come away with an impressive Unanimous Decision victory over Diego “Nightmare” Sanchez on Saturday at UFC 114.

Sanchez came in to the fight with a 21-3 record, when his latest fight was the lost the BJ Penn at UFC 107 (with a TKO). John “The Hitman” Hathaway entered the Octagon with a solid 12 and 0 record, with a decision win over Paul Taylor at UFC 105 was his last fight.

John Hathaway proved against the credible Diego Sanchez that he is for real, after dominating the former UFC Lightweight title challenger for three rounds. Hathaway was the considerably bigger man in this fight, enjoying a reach advantage that allowed him to control the pace during the fight.

Hathaway kept Diego Sanchez off his range, stinging “The Nightmare” with good legkicks and perfectly-timed combinations. Sanchez failed to execute his takedowns, causing him to change his gameplan numerous times during the fight. Hathaway is now 13-0 in his MMA career, and could easily find himself fighting against the winner of the Thiago-Kampmann match up.

It is still unclear if the twenty-two year old Brit is a star material UFC are usually looking for, but “The Hitman” is not so far from getting a shot at the UFC Welterweight title.

UFC 114 – Rampage vs. Evans held May 29, 2010 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.
