Looking to erase the bad memory of her shocking UFC Fight Night 64 submission loss to upstart challenger Maryna Moroz, The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 20 veteran Joanne Calderwood was hell bent on putting on a show at the UFC’s debut in her native land against newcomer Cortney Casey on the main card of today’s (Sat., July 18, 2015) UFC Fight Night 72 from SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland.
Aside from some early resistance from a very tough late replacement opponent in Casey, ‘JoJo’ did just that. Calderwood was able to unleash all of the considerable Muay Thai skills that we didn’t get to see against Moroz, rallying from behind to batter a tiring ‘Cast Iron’ and win a unanimous decision in her hometown.
The back-and-forth battle deservingly earned both fighters $50,000 as UFC Fight Night 72’s “Fight of the Night.”
