One day before Conor McGregor and Jose Aldo clash for the undisputed Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight title, Frankie Edgar (19-4-1) and Chad Mendes (17-3) will do battle inside the Octagon. Lance Net reported the bout is scheduled for The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 22 Finale on Dec. 11, 2015 in Las Vegas.

If you recall, Edgar ended up not being the UFC’s “Answer” to Aldo’s replacement against McGregor at UFC 189. That honor ended up going to “Money,” who suffered a TKO loss to “Notorious” last month. Now Edgar will look to prove he is the only logical number one contender for the 145-pound championship.

Since coming up short in his bid to become the featherweight title holder against Aldo back in Feb. 2013, Edgar has gone on a four-fight winning streak. His list of victims includes Charles Oliveira, B.J. Penn, Cub Swanson, and Urijah Faber. Let’s not forget the fact that “The Answer” was once the ruler of the 155-pound division, holding the lightweight title after ending Penn’s reign.

Mendes has only lost to McGregor and Aldo in his professional mixed martial arts (MMA) career. Despite coming up short in three title bouts, “Money” always proves himself to be one of the best featherweights in the world. Mendes has defeated a slew of stiff competition. The fighters who have failed to beat Mendes are Ricardo Lamas, Clay Guida, Nik Lentz, Cub Swanson, and 13 more.

Three other bouts are set to take place on the TUF 22 Finale. Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson will meet in a lightweight bout that promises to have major implications in the UFC’s 155-pound rankings. That isn’t the only lightweight contest scheduled for the event. Evan Dunham will do battle with Joe Lauzon. Ryan LaFlare will look to rebound from the first loss in his professional career earlier this year when he meets Mike Pierce.
