“Everybody Loves A Comeback Story” – Former Two-Time UFC Champ Makes Bold Prediction On Conor McGregor’s Future

A former two-time UFC champ has made a bold prediction on Conor McGregor‘s future in the promotion.

The Irishman, making a comeback after five years at UFC 329, took on Max Holloway in a welterweight bout. However, just 69 seconds into the first round, McGregor was forced to retire due to an ACL tear. It was very reminiscent of his fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, where the fight had ended in quite a similar way.

McGregor, who is now 38, has one fight left on his current UFC contract. Doubts over his future in the promotion are now rife following his injury.

In the wake of this, former two-time UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz has made his feelings known on whether McGregor can make a comeback. The 41-year-old, speaking to Ariel Helwani on his show, expressed no doubts about “The Notorious” making a strong return, backing his claim with enough reasons. Cruz said:

With all the access to the things he has, he absolutely can come back…I think that he definitely will be back…He got that taste and that feeling of showing up, and everybody doubts him right now…Everybody loves a comeback story. I think the feeling he had that night will resonate with him. He’s going to hold on to it tight and use it to get through this rehab.

Like McGregor, Cruz suffered a string of ACL injuries through the course of his illustrious UFC career. Undeterred, “The Dominator” bounced back in resounding fashion, even winning the title in one of his comeback fights (against T.J Dillashaw in January 2016).

Conor McGregor reveals return timeline after confirming ACL and Meniscus injuries

Conor McGregor has revealed the timeline for his return to the octagon after confirming that he had suffered both ACL and meniscus injuries in the fight against Max Holloway. Taking to X, the Irishman stated that he is hoping to return by next summer. McGregor wrote:

Update: It was acl and meniscus. It is the same injury as the first Holloway fight, only this time the opposite leg. Quite shocking. I returned to competition within 9 months to fight Diego Brandao back then. With today’s regenerative medicine advancements and improved training methods it is well within my realm to return by next summer. I am walking without a crutch. I done leg extension machine work the other day to no issue. So I can walk without aid, and activate my quad under resistance. All very positive…
