Daniel Cormier Grinds Out Decision Win Over Anderson Silva

A wild week for Daniel Cormier (18-1) culminated into his non-title bout against one of the greatest fighters on the planet, Anderson Silva (33-8) at UFC 200. The current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion looked to avoid “The Spider’s” web in Las Vegas.

In the end, Cormier kept Silva grounded to walk away with a win.

The two fighters touched gloves and were ready to go. Silva avoided a high kick. Cormier quickly got a takedown. He dropped some punches to the body and head of Silva. “”The Spider” looked for an armbar, but couldn’t find anything. “”DC” moved to half guard and landed an elbow. Silva’s defense prevented Cormier from achieving full mount. “DC” postured up and looked to rain down punches. The round came to a close shortly after.

A jumping switch kick from Silva was blocked at the start of the second stanza. Cormier caught a kick and dumped “The Spider” to the canvas. “DC” quickly moved to side control, but Silva was able to get him back to half guard. Cormier landed some short elbows as Silva looked for a sweep. Referee “Big” John McCarthy stood both men back up. Silva threw a knee and landed a left hand. Silva connected with a kick to the body. “DC” pushed Silva against the fence to end the round.

Silva was on his toes immediately at the start of the final frame. A right hand landed for “DC.” Cormier lifted up Silva and slammed him to the mat. Like previous rounds, “The Spider” could not find his way back up unless the referee stepped in. “Stand them up chants” echoed in the T-Mobile Arena. “Big” John gave the fans what they wanted. Silva landed a side kick to the leg. A leg kick connected for “DC.” A kick to the body landed for Silva and he followed it up with a knee. Cormier grabbed a hold of Silva and held him against the fence until the final horn sounded.

All three judges scored the fight for “DC.”

Final Result: Daniel Cormier def. Anderson Silva via unanimous decision (30-26, 30-26, 30-26)
