Cyborg Expresses Interest In Catchweight Bout Against Miesha Tate

It’s no secret that the biggest women’s mixed martial arts (MMA) bout would be a super fight between reigning UFC bantamweight queen “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey and current Invicta FC featherweight champ Cris “Cyborg” Justino, but it seems as if that fight is getting less and less likely of happening.

The main issue is the weight discrepancy, as “Cyborg” is an absolutely huge featherweight, and although she has openly stated that she would like to try and cut down to bantamweight to meet the “Rowdy” one, there’s no telling if that’s possible. Rousey on the other hand, has publicly stated that she will not move up at all to meet Justino due to the Brazilian’s past with performance-enhancing-drugs (PEDs).

However, there may be another high-level UFC bantamweight out there that would be willing to move up in order to secure a huge fight with “Cyborg”. Top-contender Miesha “Cupcake” Tate, who is considered to be one of the best female fighters on the planet aside from Rousey has said that she would meet the Invicta FC champion halfway at 140-pounds.

Apparently, “Cyborg” is interested, as her manager spoke up with ESPN, noting that a bout with Tate would be the next best option to a bout with Rousey. Justino’s manager also stated that he’s confident “Cyborg” can make 140-pounds, and they will decide on if she can make 135-pounds from there:

“”Miesha Tate said she’d fight Cris at 140 pounds. That’s probably the second biggest fight in women’s MMA, behind Cris and Ronda Rousey. It’s a step in the right direction. That’s what we would love to see in Cris’ next fight. If not Miesha, let’s see if one of the other girls will meet Cris halfway. I think a fight at 140 pounds would be a great test for Cris. As long as we continue to fight at 145 pounds, we’re never going to really explore or learn more about Cris’ ability to get to 135. I’m confident she can make 140 pounds and we’ll evaluate 135 from there.”

Justino will actually return to action tomorrow night (July 9, 2015) in the main event of Invicta FC 13 against Faith Van Duin, while “Cupcake” meets fellow top-contender Jessica Eye a few weeks from now at UFC on FOX 16.
