Chael Sonnen tested positive for using Performance-Enhancing Drugs at UFC 117

According to the California State Athletic Commission, UFC Middleweight contender Chael Sonnen was tested positive for Performance Enhancing Drugs for his fight against Anderson Silva at UFC 117. The fight took place last months on August 7th at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California, with Silva defeating Sonnen via Triangle Choke/Armbar combination in the final 5th Round.

CASC Executive Officer George Dodd stated that Sonnen already received his notice, but refused to reveal for which PED the Oregonian was tested positive.

Chael Sonnen was originally scheduled to square off against Silva in a rematch on February 6th in Las Vegas, but now may face a long suspension from fighting.

This is what Anderson Silva’s manager Ed Soares had to say on the situation: “If it’s true, I feel really bad for him,” said Soares. “I know he did it to himself but it is really sad, he put on such a great performance that night. It is just a shame it will be tarnished.”
