Carlos Condit vs. Martin Kampmann to Headline UFC on Fox Sports 1 2

5618853212 1669d640df zUFC welterweights Martin Kampmann and Carlos Condit were both in a sort of no-man’s land after both losing to surging number one contender Johny Hendricks in their respective last bouts. On one hand, they have the skills and experience to best most of the top fighters in one of MMA’s toughest divisions, but on the other hand, Hendricks derailed their momentum in a big way.

Kampmann had the worst showing of the two, being knocked out quickly in the first round. Condit of course put on a rousing show against Hendricks at UFC 158. So it makes sense that news comes today that the two talented strikers will face each other as the headlining bout of UFC on Fox Sports 1 2. The news was confirmed by Fox Sports earlier tonight, with the bout slated for August 28th from Indianapolis.

Condit dropped a split decision to Kampmann back in 2009, but remains the #2 ranked fighter in the UFC welterweight division. But he’s in the non-enviable position of having lost to both the champion and number one contender. Kampmann has been out of action since last November, and a rematch with Condit will be a stiff return test for the Danish kickboxer.

The two’s styles are tailor-made for one another, as neither shies away from a striking match. ‘The Natural Born Killer’ has recently stated that he was looking to take some time off to improve his wrestling, but he will most likely need another skillset altogether for this bout. Thankfully, it’s one he already has in abundance. Who will you pick in this pivotal bout at 170 lbs.? More on UFC on Fox Sports 1 2 as it develops.
