Lyoto Machida vs. Yoel Romero Official For TUF Brazil 4 Finale Main Event
After recent setbacks, top-ranked UFC middleweights Lyoto Machida and Yoel Romero will have a chance to redeem themselves at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) Brazil 4 Finale on June 27. News just surfaced from Combate and was later confirmed by MMA Fighting’s Guilherme Cruz.
However, the two fighters will not be fighting in Brazil, as the original event location of Sao Paulo has now been traded in for Miami, Florida.
It promises to be a pivotal bout for Machida, who lost one of the more one-sided fights of his mixed martial arts (MMA) career when he was unceremoniously submitted by surging contender Luke Rockhold in the main event of April 18’s UFC on FOX 15 from Newark, New Jersey. The former light heavyweight champion badly needs a win to stay near the top of the competitive division after two losses in his last three fights.
He’ll have his hands extremely full with Olympic wrestler Romero, who was supposed to face Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza at both February 28’s UFC 184 and in the UFC on FOX 15 co-main event before a Souza bout with pneumonia scrapped the first bout and a knee injury forced ‘Solider of God’ out of the latter.
Possessing a spotless record in the UFC, Romero has been out of action since his infamously long sit on the stool directly before his controversial third round TKO win over Tim Kennedy at September 2014’s UFC 178 from Las Vegas.
Erick Silva was set to meet Rick Story in the original TUF Brazil 4 main event, but that fight has been moved to the co-main event slot with this blockbuster announcement.
