Eddie Alvarez vs. Gilbert Melendez Full Fight Video Highlights

Former Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez got back to winning ways last night (Saturday June 13th, 2015) as he took on ex-Strikeforce 155-pound boss Gilbert Melendez in the co-main event of UFC 188. ‘The Silent Assassin’ and ‘El Nino’ were expected to put on a slug fest for the ages, but in fact it didn’t really turn out that way. The end result was actually rather unexpected.

A broken nose for Alvarez in round one, caused by a big elbow during a dominant round for ‘El Nino’, caused the Bellator veteran’s eye to swell badly after he cleared his nose between rounds. The second round seemed to continue to be dominated by Melendez’s technical boxing, although the third round seemed to be Alvarez’s best.

All said and done, Melendez may have been a little pissed off with the judge’s decision. Eddie Alvarez took a split decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28) over a disheartened Gilbert Melendez at UFC 188. Check out the full fight video highlights above, and see Fabricio Werdum submit Cain Velasquez here.
