UFC champ Conor McGregor is in hot water with cops in Ireland for a gun-related violation. Local authorities were alerted when he posted a picture of what appears to be himself with an automatic rifle. On Thursday, McGregor posted a photo of himself wearing a ski mask and holding the gun while sitting in a sports car. On the caption of the picture, it reads “Put the fight game in the bag and step away from the vehicle.”

McGregor went back to Instagram to issue an apology for the photo. McGregor explained that the photo was just him practicing for an upcoming film role.

“I apologize for having the air-soft in public,” McGregor wrote on his Instagram on Friday night. “I was simply rehearsing for a potential upcoming film role. I understand that the more traffic a story can get the more revenue it generates. So I understand and respect that the media must create these stories and these situations even if at times it is at other people’s expense,” McGregor stated.

“We’ve all got to eat. And I eat well. So I will not complain.”

It’s possible that the film role he was referencing was the offer he received to appear in Vin Diesel’s upcoming movie “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage”.

McGregor is expected to fight Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 197 for the lightweight title.
