Where Are They Now? 2007 Pound-for-Pound Rankings Edition

Where Are They Now? A Look Back At The 2007 P4P RankingsIt’s truly amazing to see how fast the landscape can change in a sport that continues to grow as rapidly as MMA does. It’s been 5 years since 2007, which in this sport is practically a generation bordering on an eternity. And yet without fail, our surroundings are once again drastically different from what they were. Jon Jones, Jose Aldo, Dominick Cruz, Frankie Edgar and Ben Henderson are all newly prominent parts of the p4p picture,

Shane Carwin: I plan on crushing my opponents

Former Interim UFC Heavyweight Champion Shane Carwin has not had a fight since he lost to current Heavyweight Champion Junior dos Santos, by decision last year.  This past November he underwent surgery for neck, back and nerve problems. The surgery took 4 four hours and required drilling into Carwin’s skull as part of the process that repaired nerve damage and problems with his spine. This morning, UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones appeared in a Binghamton, New York courtroom to enter a guilty plea for his recent driving while intoxicated arrest. The plea stems from an early morning of May 19th arrest in which Jones crashed his 2012 Bentley into a pole. Cain Velasquez: I will beat Antonio Silva no matter where the fight goes

This weekend’s UFC 146 will no doubt bring a star-studded lineup to the table. One of the major stars featured on Saturday will be former UFC Heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, who will face Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva in the co-main event. Having only fought twice since October of 2010, the AKA fighter will have much to prove in Las Vegas on May 26th. Coming off of a devastating 64 second loss to Junior dos Santos at the very first UFC on Fox card, Velasquez knows this a make-or-break fight in

Michael Bisping: I will beat Chael Sonnen in a rematch for the title

Recently, UK MMA star Michael Bisping came out with a bold claim. Never known to be the most soft-spoken of fighters, he believes that Chael Sonnen will indeed best Anderson Silva in Rio (or wherever the fight actually happens). He will then beat Sonnen in a rematch upon being given an immediate title shot. Bisping lost a hotly-contested bout versus Sonnen on UFC on Fox 2 earlier this year. Some thought he won the fight, others vehemently denied this. Bisping was quoted with the following via

Frank Mir: I would feel slighted if someone else were picked to fight dos Santos

Frank Mir recently expressed his obvious disdain at possibly being overlooked as the number one contender for Junior dos Santos’ UFC Heavyweight title at UFC 146. Since the massively publicized fallout from slated UFC 146 challenger Alistair Overeem’s failed drug test, many rumors have been swirling about who will step in to replace Overeem. While Overeem is still waiting the official decision of the NSAC concerning this matter, things do not look optimistic for the May 26 fight to go on as originally

Diaz, suspended for failing a drug test since his bout versus Carlos Condit at UFC 143, is still awaiting the final details of his possible suspension from the NSAC. However news of the claim seems to be centered around a different dispute, one that attempts to refute an earlier suggestion from the commission that had Diaz lying on a pre-fight questionnaire concerning the

Jake Shields moving to Middleweight for next fight

Jake Shields’ time at Welterweight has come to an end. According to Tuesday night’s edition of Fuel TV’s UFC Tonight, Shields will move to the 185 pound division for his next fight.
Shields has four fights at Welterweight in the UFC and he has put together a record of 2-2.   It should be noted that Shields will be making the move up in weight after winning his last fight, a unanimous decision victory over Yoshihiro Akiyama, a fighter that had dropped from Middleweight to

Urijah Faber feeling optimistic about the fight vs. Dominick Cruz

When the current season of The Ultimate Fighter concludes, coaches Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber will face off inside the Octagon. When the two bantamweights meet Cruz’s UFC crown will be on the line as well as bragging rights as the two fighters have met twice before, with each fighter taking a victory.
Since their first fight Cruz has not lost another bout, going 10-0, while Faber has compiled a record of 8-4, tasting defeat at the hands of Mike Brown (twice), Jose Aldo and Cruz. The difference in
