Mark Munoz: After Weidman, I deserve a title shot

MMA H.E.A.T.’s Karyn Bryant sat down with UFC Middleweight Mark Munoz and asked the “Filipino Wrecking Machine” about his upcoming fight with Chris Weidman, set for the main event at UFC ON FUEL TV, tomorrow night. Additionally, Munoz gives his thoughts about where he thinks he stands in the pecking order for a chance to fight for the title.

For tomorrow night’s opponent, Chris Weidman, Munoz had nothing but praise: “He lost a lot of weight, around 30 lbs right before the fight (with Damien Maia), that’s tough. To have the performance he had that’s great to see the performance he had…he’s a great fighter and he transitions between striking and wrestling and jiujitsu very well. I think it’s going to be a fun fight.”

On his cancelled bout with Chael Sonnen, Munoz admits it was a letdown, but he has gotten over it: “I was down in the dumps, but I’m living in the moment and planning for my future. I have a great group of guys around me, they are sharpening me and that’s what it takes. I am trying to bring out the inner animal in me.”

On prospects for a title shot, the “Filipino Wrecking Machine” is hungry for it: “People are talking about ‘I need a title shot’, but they either have losses to make up for. After i lost, I came back and I fought 4 fights undefeated, so when I win this fight, I deserve a title shot.”
