Igor Severino vs. Zhalgas Zhumagulov Ends in Controversial No Contest – Oktagon 89 Highlights
Igor Severino vs. Zhalgas Zhumagulov ended in controversy after an accidental low blow in the Oktagon 89 headliner on Saturday.
It was all Severino in the opening round, as the one-time UFC fighter teed off on Zhumagulov throughout the five minutes. Severino mixed up his strikes, pinning his opponent against the cage and landing brutal body blows followed by a series of stinging right hands.
But despite the onslaught, Zhumagulov survived the stanza and never stopped swinging back.
It was more of the same in the second, but a left from Severino went a little too low, catching Zhumagulov directly in the protective gear and bringing a pause to the contest. Zhumagulov stood in his corner attempting to recover, using the full five minutes of recovery time. Unfortunately, he was unable to continue, bringing a frustrating end to the evening’s main event.
As a result, Severino vs. Zhumagulov was ruled a no contest.
Official Result: Igor Severino vs. Zhalgas Zhumagulov is ruled a no contest after an accidental low blow at 2:26 of Round 2.
