Middleweights Derek Brunson and Sam Alvey squared off at UFC Fight Night 73 in Nashville, Tennessee and it was a short and brutal evening for the overwhelmed ‘Smilin’ Sam. Brunson came out ready to fight hard, grinding Alvey against the fence and unloading with some mean dirty boxing in the clinch.

The result of some nasty uppercuts saw Alvey wobbled in the opening minute and it was all downhill from there. Brunson emptied the tank on Alvey’s chin, connecting with repeated 3-2 combinations, and eventually ‘Smilin’ slumped to the mat in a heap.

The crowd booed as the stoppage may have looked a little premature, but Alvey was done nonetheless. He wavered as he stood and protested, stumbling back against the octagon fence.
