Darrion Caldwell made sure to let Patricio Freire know what he thought of him choosing to fight another opponent.
Following Bellator 228 this past weekend, there was a selection show that took place to determine the next bouts in the featherweight grand prix. Caldwell initially chose to face Freire, having talked trash to him following the latter’s win over Juan Archuleta that night.
However, Caldwell was then picked by Pedro Carvalho while “Pitbull” was later matched with Adam Borics. However, despite having the champion’s choice to override any previous decision and potentially face Caldwell, Freire chose to face Carvalho. Caldwell, meanwhile, will face Borics instead.
“The Wolf” later claimed Freire was ducking him and footage released by Bellator on Tuesday shows him confronting the two-weight champion backstage.
You can watch it below:
“I actually think it played out exactly how I thought it would, where Patricio would back out of a tough fight against me, myself, A.J. (McKee), and Borics,” Caldwell said in the video (via MMA Junkie). “He doesn’t want to fight us three. These are the three fights he’s shying away from. I think he was strategic. I’m going to show up every night and make it happen.”
The pair can still compete against each other in the grand prix — that is, provided they win their next two fights.
