Abdul Hussein Finally Gets the Tap, Submits Cody Gibson in Round 3 at UFC Abu Dhabi

Abdul Hussein

Abdul Hussein’s UFC debut went just as he would have wanted. Earlier tonight, Hussein locked horns with MMA veteran Cody Gibson at UFC Abu Dhabi.

As soon as the bantamweight three-rounder began, both fighters started going all out right away. Cody Gibson started piecing up Hussein’s lead leg. Hussein, on the other hand, had more output, stunning “The Renegade,” who also landed a couple of significant blows to earn Hussein’s respect. Both fighters escaped numerous submission attempts in the first frame.

As soon as Round 2 began, Hussein dropped Gibson with a clean right hand and hunted for a TKO finish with viscous ground and pound. But Gibson somehow managed to survive after escaping multiple submission attempts. After 10 minutes, the 38-year-old was visibly fatigued and had little left in the tank after being ragdolled for the majority of the minutes in the second stanza.

In Round 3, Hussein began dismantling an exhausted Gibson. Meanwhile, Gibson briefly managed to drop the 28-year-old and hunt for a submission, but “ABBA” escaped the danger right away. He then tripped Gibson, secured top position, and finished the fight with a head-and-arm choke submission.

Official result: Abdul Hussein defeated Cody Gibson by Round 3 submission: Head-and-arm choke (3:07) at UFC Abu Dhabi.
