Khabib Nurmagomedov Tells Pettis To Hit The Gym, Not Parties

UFC 229 ceremonial weigh-in

UFC 185 went down last night (March 14, 2015) from Dallas, Texas and it was a night of upsets. In the co-main event, underdog challenger Joanna Jedrzejczyk battered champion Carla Esparza and scored a second round TKO win to steal the belt. Even more shocking was the main event, where Rafael dos Anjos not only upset champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis to take the gold, but absolutely demolished the champ from bell to bell.

Many may not be happy that Pettis surrendered the belt including fans and the UFC. With no disrespect towards dos Anjos, Pettis was the ideal champion, possessing the looks, the style, and the charisma that the UFC drools over. However, he couldn’t do what a champion needs to do and that’s defend his title against the best in the world consistently.

There is one certain fighter who is probably very happy with the outcome of last night’s fights and that would be the unbeaten, outspoken Dagestani-born grappler Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov. Nurmagomedov would probably have been awarded the title shot if it wasn’t for a knee injury that has kept him on the sidelines for quite some time now.

In the wake of dos Anjos’ shocking upset Nurmagomedov took to Twitter to voice his opinion that “Showtime” didn’t spend enough time in the gym training:

“The Eagle” will without a doubt be given the next title shot if he can indeed get passed his next challenge, the surging Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at UFC 187 in May. What is most enticing to Nurmagomedov, however, is that he has already beat dos Anjos last year, and actually scored a very one-sided decision win over the Brazilian. Being vocal as usual, the Dagestani wrestler hit twitter last night congratulating dos Anjos on the win, but warning the Brazilian to work on his wrestling skills:

He also noted that this was the first lightweight championship going to Europe, and he will keep it in Europe by the end of year when he plans to win it:
