Donald Cerrone Says Ronda Rousey Can’t Armbar Him

After dominant women’s bantamweight champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey finished top contender “Alpha” Cat Zingano in just 16-seconds at last month’s (February 28, 2015) UFC 184, the question arose of just who could actually challenge the champion.

With Rousey demolishing every woman in her path, and a lack of women contenders to begin with, the talk began of how Rousey would fair against the male 135-pounders. Of course this is just a hypothetical thought, as the “Rowdy” one would never actually fight a male, but it has actually spurred a lot of talk, with Rousey herself even saying that she would beat most of the male bantamweights.

The idea even came up recently, when the champion was making press appearances for UFC 185, which is set to go down today (March 14, 2015), in Dallas. However, she was doing so along side surging lightweight Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone who begged to differ that Rousey would take out male fighters.

Speaking with FOX Sports, “Cowboy” recalled a moment, when he told Rousey that he was a man, and she would not arm bar him:

“The coolest thing probably ever had to do with her was I told Ronda, ‘I’m a man — there’s no way you will ever armbar me. You will never beat me in a fight,'” Cerrone recounted during a Q&A with fans on Friday prior to the UFC 185 weigh-ins.

Although he claims he was just joking, the former Olympian Rousey was up for the challenge right then and there:

“I told her this at the gym and (she) straight looks me in the eyes and says, ‘We’ve got gear right there,'” Cerrone continued. 

Rousey may train with males on a daily basis, but Cerrone and herself never got to settle the score in the gym after their brief and joking war of words. However, “Cowboy” admitted his true thoughts of the bantamweight queen that day, after her swift response and willingness to challenger him:

“(She’s) a bad (expletive),” Cerrone said. “It’s cool like that. As real as can be.”

Although the idea of Rousey fighting a man is ridiculous and almost barbaric, one must admire the champion’s willingness to truly take on the best in the world at any time. It’s obvious that something like this will never happen, other than Rousey’s training sessions, but it’s interesting how much talk is arising around this topic.
