Matt Hughes vs. Jeremy Horn – ADCC 2000

This confirmed fix didn’t actually happen in an MMA bout, but it did feature two UFC stars of that time, Matt Hughes and Jeremy Horn.

Hughes and Horn were teammates at the Miletich Fighting Systems camp and so when they were drawn together in the quarterfinals of the prestigious ADCC submission grappling tournament in 2000 they hatched a plan to fix the outcome.

According to Hughes in his autobiography, ‘Made In America,’ they decided that he had the better chance of defeating Tito Ortiz later in the tournament, and so even though Horn was recognized as the submission specialist, the plan was for him to tap out to his teammate quickly via a guillotine choke submission, which would also enable them to split the bonus money for having the tournament’s fastest submission.

It’s believed that ADCC official’s learned of their plan at a later date and banned them from competing in their future tournaments.
