Robbie Lawler ‘Feeling Like A Beast Again’ Before UFC 235

Ben Askren better look out, because former UFC welterweight king Robbie Lawler is feeling like a beast again.

Lawler is tasked with welcoming former ONE and Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren to the UFC. They’ll meet at the UFC 235 pay-per-view (PPV) from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The action goes down on March 2nd. Speaking to MMAjunkie Radio recently, Lawler said that he’s feeling great ahead of his meeting with “Funky”:

“I feel damn frickin’ good right now,” Lawler said. “I don’t know when it clicked that, holy (expletive), I’m a beast again. But I am.

“But that was always the goal – just get back to work and everything will fall into place. I just believed in myself that it was going to happen at the right time. I can’t wait to show everybody how hard I’ve been working.”

Back in 2016, Lawler was on a five-fight win streak that included two successful 170-pound title defenses. However, a run-in with Tyron Woodley ended with a knockout defeat. Lawler’s title reign came to an end after the defeat, and he returned with a decision win over Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone.

In December of 2017, Lawler returned to face former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos, which he lost via decision. Now, he’ll return for the first time in over a year against Askren, who is one of the more dominant grapplers in the sport.

“Ruthless” certainly has the capabilities to hand Askren the first loss of his career. Their fight is one of the most highly anticipated of the stacked UFC 235 card.
