Report: Zach Makovsky Stepping In To Face Scott Jorgensen At UFC On Fox 9

Some unfortunate news came out last night when it was announced that John Dodson had to withdraw form his scheduled bout with Scott Jorgensen at next weekend’s UFC on Fox 9 card from the Sleep Train Arena.

Thankfully, it looks like the search for a new opponent didn’t take long. A report has surfaced from MMA Weekly that Resurrection Fighting Alliance (RFA) flyweight champion Zach “Fun Size” Makovsky will step in an attempt to spoil Jorgensen’s flyweight debut.

Makovsky just won the RFA flyweight title by defeating Matt Manzanares at November’s RFA 11. He’ll face a quick turnaround to fight Jorgensen, who was a fixture in both the UFC and WEC bantamweight divisions before losing three out of four bouts to top 135-pounders Renan Barao, Urijah Faber, and Eddie Wineland. The streak prompted “Young Guns” to make the cut to 125 pounds.

Makovsky was also a successful bantamweight in his own right, winning the Bellator 135-pound championship against Ed West before dropping it to Eduardo Dantas. “Fun Size” will make his UFC debut against a big name opponent on a big name card.

Despite not having a ton of heat behind him, Makovsky is an experienced veteran who lays it all on the line.

The UFC hasn’t officially announced the bout but it should be a good one if and when it does come to fruition. It would be the first time we’ve seen either Jorgensen or Makovsky at flyweight in the Octagon. Who would be your pick to emerge victorious in Sacramento?
