Gian Villante Nabs Split Nod Against Francimar Barroso

It wasn’t pretty, but Gian Villante is back in the win column.

On the main card of UFC 220, Villante took on Francimar Barroso. The action was held inside TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. Despite one questionable score, Villante earned a decision victory.

The two touched gloves and we were underway. Villante was able to land a right hand early. He connected with another right hand off a leg kick counter. Barroso fired an uppercut that landed.

Villante returned the favor with an uppercut. Villante kept throwing out a high kick. Barroso looked hesitant due to his opponent’s punching power. They exchanged strikes near the end of the round.

Round two began and Villante got in some jabs. A left hook connected. Barroso had trouble doing anything significant. Villante landed an accidental kick to the groin. The action quickly resumed. Barroso had a kick caught and ate a punch. Villante just kept taking advantage of a hesitant opponent.

Villante pushed the pace in the final frame as he had all fight. Barroso landed a left hand. Villante kept walking forward and intimidating his opponent from throwing leather. The round ended with very little action.

Somehow, one judge gave the fight to Barroso. Luckily, the right fighter won.

Final Result: Gian Villante def. Francimar Barroso via split decision (30-27. 28-29, 30-27)
