UFC Fight Night 71 went down tonight (July 15, 2015) from San Diego, California presented live on FOX Sports 1, and the UFC’s hot streak has continued as it was a phenomenal night of free fights.

In the main event of the evening, former two-time heavyweight champion Frank Mir took on a young knockout artist in Todd Duffee, and Mir actually beat Duffee at his own game. There seemed to be some tension leading up to the bout, and neither man wasted any time, each coming out super aggressive, and throwing bombs. Both men seemed to get slightly rocked, but it was Mir who landed a beautiful left hand that put Duffee out cold in the first round. For his second-straight T/KO victory, Mir earned a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” Bonus.

In the co-main event, experienced former Strikeforce champion Josh “The Punk” Thompson took on rising contender Tony “El Cuycuy” Ferguson. The two seemed to be feeling each other out early, but then Ferguson turned it up in the second, rocking Thomposn and bloodying him up, while almost finishing the fight via multiple submission attempts. “The Punk” showed tremendous heart, as he continued to get battered through the third, but he didn’t give up, and still sought after a finish. It was a great war, but Ferguson ultimately ended up with a unanimous decision win and a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus.

The main card opener featured a welterweight clash between Alan Jouban and Matt Dwyer. Despite Jouban getting a point deducted in the first round due to an illegal knee, the two battled back and forth in a very exciting affair. Jouban also got the crowd fired up when he landed a spectacular cartwheel kick to end the bout, and come away with a decision victory. Both men earned a $50,000 “Fight of the Night” bonus for their efforts.
