Chris Weidman Demands Rematch With Luke Rockhold

Chris Weidman

Luke Rockhold defeated Chris Weidman to become the new king of the 185lb division in the UFC at UFC 194. This marked Weidman’s first loss ever in his career. Weidman recently spoke out about the devastating loss and stated that he is eyeing a rematch with Rockhold as soon as he can get it.

“That’s the fight I want,” Weidman said Monday on The MMA Hour. “I’d say that’s the fight I deserve, and that would be the biggest fight of my life.

Weidman would go on to explain that the next day (Sunday) after UFC 194, he had a good visit with Lorenzo Fertitta and praised Fertitta for just hanging out with him. Weidman told Fertitta that he was off at the event and was not himself. Weidman makes no excuses for losing at the event but promised that he would be a completely different person when he gets back inside the world famous Octagon.

“The next day — Lorenzo (Fertitta) is such a great guy — he came to my room, and we hung out, just spent time, watched football and talked life,” Weidman said. “I let him know right there and then that… that wasn’t me in that cage that night. Anybody who knows me, anybody who’s seen me train or has trained with me, anybody who has pretty much seen any of my fights, they know that something was off. And they’re right. No excuses, he was the better man that night. But I’m going to be a completely different person when I step in there with him next time.”

Weidman has a champion’s mentality thus the reason that he is already back training. Weidman made it clear that the only fight he wants is against Rockhold in an attempt to regain his middleweight title.

“That’s all I’m focused on,” Weidman added. “Right now, I’m training already. I’m just so hungry and determined, and the only face I see is Luke Rockhold‘s.”

The UFC has not confirmed this rematch nor have they announced Rockhold’s opponent for his first title defense so it’s possible that the two will fight again in the near future.
