John Dodson Injured, Out Of UFC On Fox 9 Bout With Scott Jorgensen

It appears that the injury bug is going to continue to take its toll on the December 14’s UFC on Fox 9 card from Sacramento.

After UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis was forced out of his title bout with Josh “Punk” Thomson, it was announced that “Showtime” would need surgery. Thomson wasted no time in finding another opponent, signing on to fight former 155-pound champion Benson Henderson at UFC on Fox 10 in January.

Today it appears that the preliminary card has taken a hit as well. Former UFC flyweight challenger John “The Magician” Dodson has been forced to withdraw from his bout against former WEC title challenger Scott Jorgensen. The UFC tweeted the disappointing news today:

Apparently, Dodson suffered a serious knee injury while training at Jackson’s MMA in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was taken to a nearby hospital to get checked out right after the injury occurred.

Dodson was last seen defeating Darrell Montague with an impressive first round knockout at UFC 166 in October. He was set to make a quick turnaround to fight Jorgensen, who is making his flyweight debut at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento.

Jorgensen is looking to get off the snide in a new weight class after losing to Urijah Faber at The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale back in April. Before that, “Young Guns” dropped two out of his previous three fights, albeit to truly elite competitors Renan Barao and Eddie Wineland.

Jorgensen is attempting a career resurgence at 125 pounds so here’s to hoping he finds a new opponent fast. He was originally scheduled to face Ian McCall at UFC on Fox 9 but “Uncle Creepy” was also forced to cancel with an injury.

Meanwhile “The Magician” will be on the shelf for an undetermined time. We here at LowKick wish him the best and a fast recovery.
