Nothing is more exciting than watching UFC fights and tuning to MMA. Many fighters try their luck with the MMA stage, and many have left us with unforgettable moments. That is why every fan has their shares of favorite fights. The top fighters struggle to the top, and their best fights are more exciting to witness! You can continue reading to know more about the current best MMA lightweight fighters.

Charles Oliveira

Charles Oliveira is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu fighter who won 33 out of his 44 MMA fights by nine knockouts, 21 submissions, and three decisions. He has been back in the lightweight division since 2017 after being in the Featherweight from 2012-to 2016.

Charles Oliveira was the first champion to lose the championship after missing his weight in his match against Justin Gaethje. It was a bewildering announcement that stripped him of his title. Despite winning the match last May 8, 2022, through a submission via rear-naked choke, Oliveira did not have a belt to take home. Whether he wins or loses the next match will determine if he can own the belt back.

One of his best performances would be during his debut fight against Darren Elkins. Within 41 seconds of the fight, Oliveira showed off his submission skills and locked in a triangle choke on his opponent. Aside from being the former lightweight champion of the world, Oliveira holds multiple UFC records. One of which includes the most notable submission wins!

Justin Gaethje

Having 27 total matches on record, this wrestling start-up mixed martial artist has won 23 fights. He has knocked out 19 opponents. He also has three decision wins and one win via submission.

Gaethje and left hook is one of the most powerful hits in the UFC today.  Tony Ferguson, in their last match was horribly disfigured because of the crisp and accurate punching of Gaethje.

Gaethje has faced a ton of quality opponents where he was always an underdog. In most of those matches, he proved everyone wrong and showed that no one could block his rise to the top anytime soon. This Arizona mixed martial artist has been in the lightweight division ever since the beginning of his professional mixed-martial arts career.

Dustin Poirier

Dustin Poirier is a 33-year-old professional mixed martial artist that debuted in the lightweight division. He tried his way with the Featherweight from 2011 to 2014, and then in Lightweight in 2015 up to the present. Poirier already had 36 matches so far where Poirier defeated his opponents by knockout 14 times, by submission seven times, and by decision seven times.

He only lost seven times too. Poirier has been in the UFC circle for around eleven years and has had his fair shares of best fights. One of which is when he met Max Holloway again in the lightweight ring. They had already met before when they were both at Featherweight, where Poirier easily won.

Perhaps one of the most defining wins in Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier’s career is his winning over the famed Conor Mcgregor twice. Despite losing the first time via knockout, Poirier completed their trilogy by knocking out Mcgregor twice.

Islam Makhachev

This Russian mixed martial artist was a former professional Sambo athlete. Out of his 23 fights, he only lost one time and won the rest of them. He won ten times by submission and eight times by decision, and he won the rest of his wins by knockout.

One of Makhachev’s recent fights that are hardly unforgettable is his match against a Brazilian mixed martial artist, Thiago Moises.

This match was Makhachev’s first UFC main event, and just like how he was doing, he never failed his fans again that time. He held a rear-naked choke against Moises, and Islam Makhachev made him submit during the fourth round, making the match Makchachev’s eight straight victories.

Beneil Dariush

Beneil Dariush is an American mixed martial artist with a Brazilian jiu-jitsu fighting style. He made his UFC debut last October 25, 2014, where he defeated the then-undefeated Carlos Diego Ferreira, which caught the attention of multiple UFC fans. Dariush did not disappoint and delivered 21 wins out of his 26 matches.

He won sixteen matches by submission and decision and five matches via knockout. He also only had one draw with Evan Dunham, which means he only had four losses in total. One of Beneil Dariush’s best fights is his match against Scott Holtzman. Dariush is currently ranked as the 4th best lightweight in the UFC.

Final Thoughts

The matches listed above are significant to UFC history that all MMA should know about. Henceforth, MMA fighters will continue to leave unforgettable fights, which is something all fans can look forward to in 2022.
