Georges St-Pierre

The legions of mixed martial arts (MMA) fans anticipating the long-awaited return of all-time great welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre will have to wait a little longer, at least for now.

A report surfaced earlier tonight from FM93 Quebec’s Dan Pou that St. Pierre would be revealing his plan to come back in the coming days:

When the FM93 tweet set the Twitterverse ablaze with seemingly the most concrete bit of information concerning St. Pierre’s return, the excitement shared amongst the MMA world was understandably palpable.

Unfortunately, it appears that it’s just not true, as St. Pierre told MMA Fighting that the report was not fact. St. Pierre texted the site with a clear message refuting the report in any and all sense:

“I can tell you with certainty that their their sources are not reliable.”

So with that rumored comeback quelled, St. Pierre will continue the semi-retirement he’s enjoyed since his extremely controversial split decision win over Georges St. Pierre at UFC 167 in November 2013.

The speculation comes and goes about his return, but there’s no question that the promotion could use his presence on their upcoming midsummer blockbuster, UFC 200; especially if it were in his long rumored superfight with Anderson Silva.

For now, however, St. Pierre’s fighting status still very much remains an unknown.
