Georges St-Pierre says Frankie Edgar #1 pound-for-pound; Anderson Silva #3

As Georges St-Pierre prepares for his highly anticipated showdown with Carlos Condit, the UFC welterweight champion sat down with the Los Angeles Times to discuss his return after nearly 18 months of being on the shelf. While we expected the usual “I’m focused” talk from GSP, what he had to say about his personal pound-for-pound list just might shock the world.

When asked who is the best fighter in the world right now, you would expect for GSP to say either himself, Jon Jones or Anderson Silva. Well, he eliminated himself out of the equation because of his inactivity. So that means Jones, Silva or maybe Jose Aldo? Right? Wrong.

“No. 1 is Frankie Edgar; he’s the best pound-for-pound fighter we have.””

Wait, what?

We’re thinking the same thing: how does a guy who doesn’t currently hold a title and lost his two fights to Benson Henderson #1?

“He lost his fight to Benson Henderson only according to the judges. He was much stronger than Henderson.”

Okay…

That’s certainly a shock. Who are his #2 and #3 fighters? Jon Jones and Anderson Silva, respectively. He doesn’t explain why, it’s just how GSP thinks.

Perhaps St-Pierre has brain rust to go along with the cage rust.

What do you think?
