Georges St-Pierre Promises To Retire Michael Bisping

Many are unsure what to expect from Georges St. Pierre tomorrow night.

The former longtime UFC welterweight champion hasn’t competed since scoring a highly controversial split-decision victory over Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 in 2013. Now four years later, “Rush” is set to make his return, as he’ll compete against middleweight champion Michael Bisping in the main event of tomorrow’s UFC 217 from Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Ahead of his return bout, St. Pierre seems to be in good spirits:

“I’m back now,” St-Pierre told reporters at yesterday’s UFC 217 news conference. “There is no other place I want to be than where I am right now.”

Originally, the bout between Bisping and St. Pierre was announced last March, although no date was set. It then appeared as if the fight was longer taking place before all parties involved were eventually able to agree on a date, an event, and a venue.

Given how long it took, however, Bisping has had ample time to ramp up his trash talk. St. Pierre is the more reserved of the two, and he appears to simply be focused on the fight:

“It’s the calm before the storm,” St-Pierre said. “He’s got a big mouth. … If he wants to waste his energy like this, it’s all good. I’ve got one goal in mind, and that’s it.”

He even went as far to say that he’s going to retire Bisping, who criticized him for dressing like a ‘history teacher’:

“I will retire him,” St-Pierre said. “You’re going to be beaten by a history teacher on Saturday.”
