UFC on FOX 5 Weekend: Rousey to headline UFC 157, GSP wants Diaz

Rousey set to face Liz Carmouche at UFC 157 main event

That’s right, UFC President Dana White presented Ronda Rousey the UFC Women’s title, declaring that “Rowdy” will have her first title defense against Liz Carmouche at UFC 157. According to White, the fight with Cyborg Santos will still happen, but Rousey will fight Carmouche first. White also revealed that not so many fighters volunteered to step inside the Octagon with Ronda Rousey, while Liz Carmouche, 7-2 in her Mixed Martial Arts career, was basically the only one that stepped up with serious intentions to fight the champ.

Georges St. Pierre vs. Nick Diaz in 2013

MMA fans around the world might be disappointed with this one, as it is almost official that Georges St. Pierre vs. Anderson Silva will not happen anytime soon. White stated during the press conference that St. Pierre still wants to settle the score with Nick Diaz, instead of ‘facing the unknown’ against Anderson Silva. “If he wants to fight Nick Diaz, and Nick Diaz wants to fight him, then that’s probably the fight we’ll make,” said White, almost certainly killing any chance for Silva vs. GSP in 2013.

  • Rousey becoming UFC champ and headlining a PPV on the biggest stage in the sport – Great for MMA.
Nick Diaz getting a title shot completely unfairly and Johnny Hendricks getting his fighting performances overruled by whining, disrespect and trash talking – TERRIBLE for the sport.

I want to see the GSP/Diaz fight so badly but like most things in life, there's a time and a place.

    • is anyone surprised gsp turn down the fight with anderson silva?

      • gsp is afraid of silva while silva is afraid of jon jones but jones is willing to go up to the heavyweight.

      • GSP is running faster away from Anderson than Forrest Griffin…

GSP is not a risk taker…he is the pound for pound safest non finisher in the division. He knows he can neutralise nicks boxing with some boring lay and pray double leg takedowns over five rounds…

      • Is anyone surprised that you spew meaningless BS about the #2 p4p fighter in the world?

        • That was for onemoreround but it works for enjoylife as well.

          • 2# hahahaha more like #4 i suggest you look at JOSE ALDO, JON BONES JONES (who has beaten up more former champs) JUNIOR DOS SANTOS( who has a higher percentage of finishes and is undefeated)

          • by the way anyone who thinks george is #2 p4p atleast knows anderson is #1 🙂

          • Bones has beat more former champs than Silva aswell?
@onemoreround I don't understand you, your just a sad hater.

You try to act like you need to defend Silva and make his cause for being #1… we all know he's the best and most of us like him just as much as you. Get to know more than one fighter please…never heard you talk about anything except hwo good Anderson is or how much you dislike GSP

          • and georges

Most boring consecutive tittle defenses (five)

          • @onemoredumbass lol just lol… I say you stupidly always defend Silva when he needs no defending… and in reply you tell me how good he is, even though he's my second favourite fighter ever is..
            well done, very logical!

          • stop defending gsp's dodging of silva!

          • @keithfarell

im just having fun, im very blessed to have seen fighters like royce, sakuraba, chuck, fedor, wandy, and anderson.

    • how is she the champ b4 she even fights in the ufc?

      • because she is 6-0 and destroyed every fighter!

    • for me personally I dont think thats a disappointment, I always wanted to see GSP vs DIAZ. Never really want to see gsp vs silva cause silva should be facing Jones if anything as he has fought in that weight class so many times

  • Right or wrong I'm looking forward to GSP Diaz.

    • more like wrong, anderson lobbied for the fight pretty hard, and the "sound Bytes" by gsp were horrendous.

      -"anderson weights 240"
      -"anderson wants to retire me"

      and so on

      • Yes, lobbied hard for a fight with a WW right after running away from a fight with a 205er.

  • BJ looks relaxed and Rory looks uptight.

  • Would the UFC continue to hold female fights if ronda was suddenly injured and couldn't compete for over a year? For some reason I think not….

    • Very smart opinion right here, Dana seems to love Ronda a little bit too much. How many female fighters are there on the ufc roster?

      • I'm not sure but it's worry when he couldn't remember Carano's name

  • Go BJ

  • my wife is jealous of Ronda because i have a crush on her

    • my wife is jealous because i have a crush on Cyborg

    • I jealous of you. My wife won't let me have a crush Rhonda

  • I think there's a good chance that GSP could still be Silva's next opponent, since the Spider won't be back for almost a year and GSP wants to keep busy.
