UFC Fight Night 34 Post-Fight Bonuses: Saffiedine And Lim Net $50,000 For Rousing Battle

UFC Fight Night 34 delivered an exciting card of fights this morning from the Marina Bay Sands in Marina Bay, Singapore. The event featured a welterweight headliner between debuting former Strikeforce champion Tarec Saffiedine and rising challenger Hyun Gyu Lim.

The back-and-forth battle saw Saffiedine batter Lim’s leg with his patented low kicks to the point where it looked like the fight might be stopped at certain junctures. However, Lim survived to the final bell and even rocked Saffiedine with a late flurry of punches and knees. If the fight had lasted much longer the tables definitely may have been turned.

It was an amazing fight and one that ultimately earned both fighters a much-deserved $50,000 for “Fight of the Night.”

The $50,000 for “Knockout of the Night” went to none other than featherweight Max Holloway, who showed some very impressive striking by nailing Will Chope with a vicious spinning back kick to the body before swarming to end the bout with a flurry. The win was a great way for Holloway to get back on track after a loss to hyped featherweight Conor McGregor at August’s UFC Fight Night 26.

“Submission of the Night” went to Russell Doane, who locked up a fight-ending triangle choke on Leandro Issa. The hold came at literally the last second of round 2 of the opening preliminary card bout.

All told UFC Fight Night 34 delivered a great card considering the relative lack of fanfare in the wake of last weekend’s massively hyped UFC 168. The card proved that marquee names don’t necessarily need to grace a card in order for it to be exciting.

However, many fans were unable to watch the card if they weren’t already subscribed to “Fight Pass.” Will the UFC’s strong start to 2014 convince you to sign up for the new digital subscription service?
